猫屋町ビルヂング2Fギャラリーにて、Charles Munka(シャルル・ ムンカ)の個展「Tameshigaki (entre les lignes)」を開催いたします。ムンカは、フランス・リヨン生まれ。2000年にフランスを離れ、東京、上海、香港を経て、2018年から新潟県佐渡市を拠点に制作を続けているアーティストです。

ムンカは世界各国を旅しながら、20年以上に渡り文具店で見かける「試し書き用紙」を蒐集し続けてきました。ペンや鉛筆などの「試し書き」として他人が残した線、文字や記号、絵などのモチーフをサンプリング、リミックスすることで新たに組み上げた作品シリーズ「Tameshigaki」を制作しています。本展では、今夏、東京の INS Studio とザ・コンランショップ 代官山店での同時発表で話題となり高い注目を集めた、本シリーズの最新作を初公開 致します。

Charles Munka
“Tameshigaki (entre les lignes)”

We are pleased to announce “Tameshigaki (entre les lignes),” a solo exhibition by Charles Munka at the Nekoyacho Building 2nd floor gallery. Munka, born in Lyon, France, is an artist who lived in Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and has been based in Sado City, Niigata Prefecture since 2018.

While traveling around the world, Munka has been collecting “test-writing paper” found in stationery stores for over 20 years. The “Tameshigaki” paintings were created by sampling and rearranging lines, letters, symbols, drawings, and other motifs left by people as “trial scribbles” with pens and pencils, and assembling them into original compositions. This exhibition will be the first public showing of the latest paintings from this series, which was first presented in July, simultaneously at INS Studio and The CONRAN Shop Daikanyama in Tokyo.
